The Hospital

At 7 a.m. this morning we got a call from Elder Martin. He was at the hospital with his companion, Elder Jacobsen. For the past week Elder Jacobsen has been in a lot of pain. They contacted the mission doctor in Atlanta, and he thought it sounded like a bladder infection. He prescribed an anti-biotic. On Saturday the elders did two strenuous service projects, with Elder Jacobsen toughing it out. Last night the pain was so bad they went to the emergency room. They spent the night there. Elder Jacobsen has a hernia. The other two elders (zone leaders) had to go to Macon for training, so Elder Barlow and I went to the hospital. We got permission from the president for me to stay with Elder Jacobsen, and Elder Barlow took Elder Martin home to get some rest. He didn't sleep all night. Later Elder Barlow took Elder Martin to a teaching appointment. So I spent a lot of time at the hospital today. The surgery room was too busy, so they'll operate on Elder Jacobsen tomorrow. Their numbers won't be very good this week. The zone leaders will be back this evening to help out. It was a test to be laying there and not being able to turn on the T.V. to watch the Olympics.
